Village Vanguard Waitress Sues for
Sexual Harassment and Age Discrimination

A 63-year-old former employee of Greenwich Village jazz institution the Village Vanguard is suing for “decades” of discrimination and harassment. Madeleine Abel alleges she was the recipient of several unwelcome sexual advances and was groped by the club’s manager, who reportedly also said she was “a little long in the tooth” to  working as a waitress. Abel had an emotional breakdown and was fired after she took a leave of absence from the club, where she had worked for 35 years.
